    The Walden Pond Reservation is considered the birthplace of the conservation movement, due to the inspiration that Henry David Thoreau found while living there. Because of his influential Walden, the site is also designated as a National Historic Landmark. In the summer the reservation is a favorite swimming spot, and in fall and spring, hikers frequent the trails around the pond. There are guided programs and walks throughout the year that highlight the importance of conservation and the influence of Thoreau on the movement.

    Lorraine Park campgrounds are located within the Harold Parker State Forest, and are available late may through early September for use. There are 89 campsites available for primitive camping. There are picnic tables and grills at each site, and the showers do have hot water.
